Before We Choose a Solution, Find What Is Actually Changing.
A visible error does not tell us where the problem begins. I work with athletes, coaches, teams and federations to trace what changes under pressure, what may be driving it and what needs to change in practice.
The same performance problem can begin in different places.
Click each area. The point is not to decide that a problem is “mental” or “technical” too early. It is to find the first meaningful change.
First ask whether the same problem is clearly present in ordinary training. If it is, pressure may not be the best place to begin. If it appears mainly when the situation matters, the visible technical error may be downstream of another change.
I start with the performance episode.
Not with a personality label. Not with a generic mental technique. We reconstruct what happened and look for the earliest useful point in the chain.
Situation
What made this moment different: score, final, first attempt, previous error, expectation, uncertainty?
First Change
What changed before the visible error: attention, body feedback, timing, decision, rhythm or control?
Mechanism
What may be organising that change: overcontrol, threat monitoring, error carryover, score protection or another factor?
Response
What does the athlete or coach do next, and does that response solve the original problem or reinforce it?
Practice
What needs to change in training so the response can transfer when the situation matters?
Correcting the last thing you see can mean correcting the wrong thing.
A technical correction may be necessary. But when the technical change is already a consequence, adding more control can make the performance less stable under pressure.
“Fix the shot.”
- See the technical error
- Correct the visible movement
- Add more conscious control
- Repeat the correction under pressure
“Find where it changed.”
- Reconstruct the situation
- Identify the first meaningful change
- Separate cause from compensation
- Build the right response into practice

Tell Me Your Situation
Tell me your role, sport and the performance problem you are trying to understand. We can start from the problem itself rather than from a predefined service.
