Para Coaches
Coaching in para sport requires more than adapting technique. Pain, fatigue, spasticity, altered sensitivity and limited recovery can change movement, concentration and technical trust before the athlete can clearly explain what is happening.
Do not confuse protection with avoidance
Reduced intensity may be the athlete’s attempt to preserve enough physical resource for the whole session or competition.
Look beyond the visible technique
A technical change may begin with pain, spasticity, altered balance or reduced sensory feedback rather than a loss of skill.
Adapt without lowering expectations
Effective adaptation changes the route to performance. It does not remove responsibility, standards or competitive ambition.
